Guide Spotlight: Legendary Luke

Guide Spotlight: Legendary Luke
Our next guide spotlight goes out to the man, the myth, the legend: Luke!
Luke has been guiding longer than any of the other guides on our current roster and is an integral part to our team. His sense of humour will have you in stitches and his outgoing personality makes every one of his tours feel like an adventure!

Where are you from?

I’m from London, England!

What brought you to Whistler?

I first visited in ‘97 and I came here mainly for the snow. During the Winter I’m a snowboarding instructor so this was the perfect place for me to stay.

Where would you take guests from out of town?

Depending on the season, I’d definitely do some hiking trails, like Joffre Lakes, which is very popular for how beautiful it is. Ideally I’d fill the day with a balance of relaxation, hiking and dining in the local Whistler restaurants. If it’s a special occasion, I’d bring my guests to The RimRock or 21 Steps which are both great high-end restaurants in Whistler.

What’s your favourite ski run to take?

I really like Christmas Trees because it’s steep and reasonably unknown. It’s a great trail that holds snow really well after a fresh dump.

Name your go-to apres ski spot:

Oh I’d definitely say the new and improved GLC (Garibadli Lift Co)! Aspens on Blackcomb has the best hot tub in town though – and it’s right on the slopes.

Which is the best table at any particular restaurant we feature on one of our tours?

The table in the Bearfoot Bistro’s wine cellar on the Finer Things Tour is hands down the best one. It’s also built in a way that it can be raised up and down so the whole area functions as a private dining room where the walls are lined with over 15,000 bottles of vintage wine.

Who’s your favourite server in town?

Oh I can’t pick anyone out, everyone is so fantastic.

What’s something that has made you smile on one of your recent tours?

Christine and I were guiding a custom tour of 60 people recently and there were a few kids in the group. One of the young girls decided to join me as a “chocolate commander” and became the leader on the way to Rogers Chocolates where we handed out some truffles. It was really cute!
