Best Bartenders in Town: Patrice

Best Bartenders in Town: Patrice
You heard it from our guide Bria, if you’re lucky enough to be served by Patrice at the Hy’s Steakhouse Bar, you’ll be guaranteed a good time!
His shining personality and great attitude for the past 8 years are a big part of why Hy’s has been such a popular Whistler restaurant.
There’s a reason why everyone always trusts their local bartender!

How long have you been in Whistler?

I came in ‘89 then left in ‘96 and came back around the time of the 2010 Olympics.

If you had friends visiting from out of town that you wanted to impress, where would you take them?

The Rimrock cafe is my go-to restaurant in Whistler especially if you want something special. They are very consistent in what they produce. Bearfoot Bistro is another great choice for high-end dining in Whistler but for some late night eats you can’t beat Bar Oso.

In the summertime, I’d highly recommend renting a bike and going on a scenic ride along the Valley Trail which connects all of Whistler’s neighborhoods. There are so many beautiful lakes, especially on the Alta side, which has a great view of Whistler Blackcomb.

What is the best drink in Whistler?

The Watermelon Margarita at Hy’s is amazing. It includes tequila with fresh lemon-lime juice and a salted rim. It was actually so popular they may make it the official drink for Hy’s Canada next Summer!

Where do you go for dinner when you’re in Vancouver?

I’m so busy that I rarely ever get to go into the city. I also love it in Whistler so much I almost never want to leave. The Cactus Club in West Vancouver is really good though. Can’t go wrong with a Feenie burger or dry ribs accompanied with a bottle of Pinot Gris.

What’s your favorite vineyard in BC to visit?

For the last 2 years, I’ve been making trips out to the Okanagan because they have so many incredible vineyards out there. My favorite is Tinhorn Creek because they have a great restaurant called Miradoro with an overlooking patio and a wood-burning stove. There are also a lot of beautiful lakes in the area.

Where would you recommend going to experience Whistler’s nightlife?

Buffalo Bills is definitely one of the best clubs in town. However, if you want a relaxed environment that’s great for adults of all ages and not intimidating in the slightest, Dubh Linn Gate is the place to be in Whistler. You’ll always find a good band performing live there.

Ask for Patrice the next time you’re at Hy’s and we promise you’ll leave with a smile on your face 🙂
